Stories of locations associated with deaf and disabled people
History of Place, Accentuate
Accentuate challenges perceptions of disability by providing life changing opportunities for Deaf and disabled people to participate and lead within the cultural sector. We developed Accentuate’s main website in 2010 and in 2015 we produced a digital media plan and sustainability report for Accentuate’s History of Place project which formed part of a successful HLF stage 2 funding application. Following this, we were pleased to be commissioned to develop the project website. The project involved the recruitment of volunteers, the creation of a digital archive and editorial and interactive content that explores eight places of key importance to the history of disability in England over a span of around 1000 years. The design was mindful of Deaf and disabled audiences without compromising on the aesthetic.
