UK-German Connection promotes cultural exchange between the UK and Germany, and language learning. The project is is funded and governed by the UK and German governments, British Council and the Pädagogischer Austauschdienst. It includes initiatives to connect schools in both countries, and to introduce young people to different experiences, projects and opportunities.
The site has separate sub-sites for primary and secondary school children, and a section for professionals and parents. The website is loaded with resources and experiences, both in the site pages and integrated from social media channels. There is an integrated database of funding opportunities, and a dedicated applications system to apply for bursaries to travel to the UK or Germany to stay with a host family.
This project is an example of our practice in digital sustainability. We first launched the site in 2005, and have been working with UK-German Connection since then to keep its digital presence current and relevant, without the need for huge financial investment. The site’s third refresh launched at the end of 2019.
