The Beaney Tour is an accessible tour app designed primarily for blind and partially sighted people, but useful for anybody. For visitors to Canterbury’s leading museum, the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge, it brings to life key objects and paintings, using highly zoom-able pictures and audio descriptions.
The app was developed as part of the ‘Sensing Culture’ project from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). As well as its custom-created accessible content, the app works with the accessibility settings on mobile devices, so users can set their own preferences, e.g. voice input and output, detailed magnification, increased contrast and colour filters.
